A pair of birds on a single base, Stangl 3582D, Double Parakeets, which were made in several different colors — these are the “green” version. Green, blue, yellow, and brown glaze colors. Genuine, authentic, vintage Made in USA Stangl.
Stangl birds made their debut in 1940, and these particular parakeets are probably from that decade; during the early 1940s Stangl’s birds were so popular that they were being decorated at both their Flemington plant and their Trenton plant. The birds decorated at Flemington had three letters used as the “artists mark” — the first two would be the artists initials followed by an “F” for Flemington. These parakeets are initialed “VR” (for decorator Viola Reames) so they were made at the Stangl’s Trenton plant, most likely during the height of Stangl birds’ popularity in the 1940s.
SPECS: Approx. 7.25 inches at its tallest. The base measures approx. 6.5" by 4.25". Exact weight of this figurine is 1 lb 2.4 oz (522 g). On the bottom: "STANGL POTTERY BIRDS" in brown ink oval. Hand-signed initials “VR” under the glaze; hand-incised number 3582. Mint condition: No chips, No cracks, No repairs. Simply beautiful.
