Highly unusual and counter to his usual Realism, this Woodson barn exhibits an abstract quality in its use of color — the sunlit side rendered in pale-pink yellows and white, the shadow side and roof shades of dark to vivid greens.
The most common subject of Everett Woodson’s (1933–2016) paintings is barns. He is renowned for his “barn” paintings, which often depict rustic, rural Missouri landscapes, farmhouses, and barns in a variety of settings, locations, and seasons.
We believe this to be one of Everett Woodson’s earliest works. An original oil painting, featuring a barn in a rural landscape, unusual in its rendering, signed “Everett Woodson”, the scene also includes a fence, trees, birds and a path leading to a farm field. Oil on canvas, original handmade knotty-pine wood frame.
In very nice condition. About an inch from the top there is a single long “crazing line” that nearly spans the width, visible if you supersize and zoom-in on either of the first two photos.
Canvas stretcher measures 16 inches wide by 12 inches tall, handmade knotty pine frame measures 19.5 inches wide by 15.5 inches tall, overall depth (frame plus stretchers) about 1.4 inches.
Truly a magnificent and highly unusual Woodson barn.
