Bird of Paradise, Birds on Branches, a lovely pair of antique Chinese hand-carved figurines made of reconstituted “cherry amber” of striking red/orange color. Though unsigned and undated our best guess is that they were made late-1800s to early-1900s.
Small sculptures suitable for desktop, mantel, bookshelf or other indoor home or office setting. One bird measures about 6.0 inches tall, and the other bird about 6.2 inches tall, the pair weigh 10 ounces, which is approx. 280 grams.
A beautiful pair of antique hand-carved amber birds. Note carefully the carving technique, not to be confused with some of the more obviously-recent Chinese carved amber birds that you might find online.

Genuine amber: Consider the following (non-destructive) tests that we conducted and make your buying decision based upon them.
1. Acetone test: Q-tip dipped in acetone and rubbed on the bottom of each bird, no material or red color was transferred to the Q-tip, and there was no momentary “softening” of the material.
2. UV test: Please carefully study the several photos where the birds are partially illuminated with a UV light source in a low light setting, exhibiting some degree of fluorescence.
