Heartfelt ... "Pilgrims", made circa 1925 by the Armor Bronze Company, a pair of vintage electroformed bronze-clad figural book ends, with original polychrome paint (light gray, burnt orange, green). These bookends feature a man and woman dressed in Pilgrim garb; the couple strolling arm in arm and gazing at each other. Classic Thanksgiving theme, or a wonderful wedding gift. Big, heavy, and functional -- they'll look great in your Americana decorated home.

No. 716 in Kuritzky and De Costa. Rare, the authors give these a rarity rating of 5 out of 5.

SPECS: Each measures about 8.4" tall by 5.0" wide by 3.8" deep, the pair weighs in at 8 lbs 13 oz. No breaks or tears in the bronze cladding. On the back: "Byron Bristol SC" (Sculptor), "Armor Bronze Inc." (on one of the pair).

Background: The Pilgrims were English Separatists who broke away from the Church of England and committed themselves to a life based on the Bible. Mostly farmers, they were led by William Brewster and the Rev. Richard Clifton, and in 1617 the congregation voted to emigrate to America. On Sept. 16, 1620, with about 102 passengers aboard, the Mayflower began her historic voyage. Sighting Cape Cod on November 19, they made landing on December 21 and the bulk of settlers following ashore on Dec. 26, the day after Christmas. The Mayflower's passengers were first described as the "Pilgrim Fathers" in 1799.
