Stangl "Blue Jay with Leaf" #3716, one of Stangl's "Birds of America" figurines which made their debut in 1940 and were based on the drawings and paintings of John Audubon.
Damaged item: This bird has two small broken pieces — but the breaks are clean, and both pieces are included so that you might choose to have this bird professionally repaired, at your expense. Please carefully study the closeup photos (the beak and wingtip were temporarily held in place for the photos using a tiny piece of double-sided tape).
On the bottom: Initialed with a handwritten "MW" under the glaze, indicating that Margaret Walsh at the Trenton NJ plant was the decorator of this piece. "STANGL POTTERY BIRDS" in black ink oval; "3716" stamped in blue.
SPECS: The overall height is 10", wing-tip to wing-tip is 7.5", base measures about 6.5" x 4.25", weight is 2 lbs 1 oz (935g). The beak and one wingtip have broken off, each piece is about 3/8" long and both pieces are included.
